MONEY

All businesses use the US$ or Riel. The USD is pegged at about KHR4000. We always bring from USD500-1000 to Cambodia in a mix of $50 and $100. (make sure the are crisp and no older than 2008) When you pay a bill in US$ you will get change in a mix of US$ and Riel. (there are no coins) Use your bank card all over Asia at ATMs. The ANZ Bank ATM will spit out either Riel or US$ your choice. Do not change money inside normal banks, they have very weird rates.

TAXIS

We always hire a tuk-tuk at the hotel for all the days that we stay. At about $15-20/day you get a private chauffeured tuk-tuk. Where ever you stay try to get Mr Kat (his home base is the Damnak Tourist Services office) but he will work freelance. Great guy, very safe and friendly. He takes us where ever we want to go from 8-9am til about 5pm or anything in between. We usually have him collect us about 9am and take us to where ever we are going for breakfast (that would be the Cafe Central). Then maybe out to the temples or shopping or just site seeing. The he’ll drop us for lunch and collect us a couple of hours later. (he takes off to do other errands) Finally he’ll drop us off at days end. OR any itinerary you desire.

HOSPITALS

Get yourself back to Bangkok ASAP.

WATER

Don’t brush your teeth with tap water anywhere… keep your mouth closed in the shower… no crushed ice in drinks… you can normally trust ice with a hole as purified water.

Drink more water than you think you need.
